Healthcare in Abuja

Healthcare for Expats in Abuja is one of the most challenging aspects to life in Abuja. Even the best hospitals here do not provide a very high level of service (or so people say – I haven’t done an independent review). Read on for information on hospitals, pharmacies, and paediatricians in Abuja.

Hospitals

The best hospital in town is the Nizamiye Hospital, commonly referred to as the Turkish Hospital. www.nizamiyehospital.com.ng. However, friends in the medical professional have told me that even here, the care is not up to international standards. In short, if you get sick, that’s probably where you want to be unless you have the opportunity to go to another country.

Pharmacies

There are plenty of pharmacies in Abuja but there have been reports of sub standard drugs being sold in some places. Here are two pharmacies that have been recommended by health professionals:

  1. SuperPharma in Wuse The place is clean and reliable. They stock almost anything that you might need. In particular, they have a great collection of baby care and beauty products. They are happy to organise delivery if you call them (+234 905 555 0050 / Instagram) (Contact). They also have a new branch on 45 Gana Street in Maitama.
  2. H-Medix in Garki. I haven’t been here but it has been reviewed and recommended by medical professionals that I know. It appears also that you can shop online for quick delivery within Abuja. Please let me know if you try that and it works. It’s also close to One Stop Baby Shop, which might be handy if you need to buy drugs and baby supplies at the same time. https://goo.gl/maps/Qmaws3FoxWZZimvC6
  3. Shalem Pharmacy in Dunes Centre is also clean and reliable.

Dentists

I don’t have information on dentists in Abuja and I am hoping that I will never have to go to one. A friend has recommended Smile, near Flour Café. https://g.page/smiledentalabj2?share

Paediatricians

There is an excellent Paediatrician operating in Abuja; see children’s section.
